how do i turn off numlock on macbook pro? can't get into my laptop because my password has numbers in it

How do I turn numlock off on my macbook pro? I left my laptop and came back to see that my laptop was sleeping and when I tried to enter my password it said it was incorrect so i was scared, but then realised that none of the numbers were working so I assume it is numlock. I've tried pressing the keys fn + f6, as well as pressing option key 5 times, as most websites I've viewed have suggested, but it doesn't seem to be working. Does anyone know any other way that i can turn off numlock without logging into my macbook?
