i can't hear Keynote recording. Seems like microphone is off. KN 6.6.2, OS X 10.11.6

I'm trying to record a narration of my Kenote presentation. Following the Help, I press record, wait for

the 3 second delay, and then speak into the internal mic. There is no blinking red light, but the recording

timeline advances. When I try to playback, the timing is there, but no audio. I have selected internal mic

from System Preferences, and tested that the mic works with the Dictation option, but have Dictation turned

off. What's preventing me from recording and hearing my audio?

Thanks

MacBook (13-inch Late 2006), Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Before making a recording, use the following settings:

  • Inspector > Document > Document; in the Presentation Type dropdown menu, select: Normal
  • Utilities > audio MIDI setup; select the correct mic from the list then move slider all way to the right
  • system settings > sound > input > select correct input device from list
  • system settings > sound > output > select correct output device from list
  • speak in to the microphone, check the input level indicator and adjust the slider so the level does not go into the red

In Keynote Record slideshow, speak into the mic and check the sound level reaches orange, as below:
