INSTALLING GAMES

Hello, when installing some of my kids games, and some other software, that states on the label it is compatible with OSX such and such or higher, I can't get the disks to start or install automatically. I have OSX 10.4.8, and have newly switched from windows. I know that you can "run" disks on windows with exe. files, but what does one do to start installations on the mac? When I click on the disk icon and go into the folder and choose "autorun", some have said not supported by this system, and others say can't open choose application. This may be a stupid request for help, but I believe no questions are stupid when one is TRYING to learn. Thanks for any help. Eric.

Eric,

Your request for help is not stupid and your question is valid.

There should be a file to click on to install the program or there should be instructions for Mac OSX. A exe file is for Windows computers.

Specifically what game are you installing? Did you get a box with the purchase or just a CD?

Hey, thanks for the reply...I have tried older games such as "backyard baseball 2003" it says supported by version 10.1 or higher...I have the new intel mac and have read that some software has to be run on OS classic, but that this won't work on the intel imac...I also have the brand new "cars" game and have downloaded the cars intel updater patch and still can't get it to run on my mac...any other suggestions???...thanks for the support. EG.

The Cars game does need the intel patch. The file you downloaded should be called cars intelupdater.zip. Double click this zip file. This will uncompress it and create a new file on your desktop. This is the installer. Open up this new file and click it to install.

The specifications I've read on Backyard Baseball 2003 state you need Mac OS 8.1 or higher. Since the intel Mac's don't run classic then Backyard Baseball 2003 will not work.

You can get classic working with a program called SheepShaver but it's not 100% reliable and crashes. For more info on SheepShaver see here:
