When i go to rent a movie on apple tv it asks for my ID and security code but after i do it just sends me right back to enter them again

I have the flat black Apple TV with the silver remote (not sure of the model but definitely not a new one). When I go to rent a movie on it it asks for my Apple ID & then a security code that is sent to my phone. Once o put these in and press submit it takes me straight back to enter my ID. After re-entering it again it just keeps taking me back. Any ideas why this is happening? TIA

If you are using 2 factor authentication on an older device…

You should be able to append the code to your password and enter that (i.e. if your password is ABC and your code is 123, enter ABC123), however if this doesn't work, you may want to temporarily disable the 2 step verification/2 factor authentication while you log in.

Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication
