iPad Mini Has 100% Charge, But Shows 0%

My wife's iPad mini has been misbehaving lately; she will let it charge overnight (using the proper Apple charger) and in the morning when she disconnects the iPad and flips its cover open it displays the "drained battery" symbol. When she reconnects it to the charger and waits for the iPad to acknowledge the connection, she can then remove the iPad and use it -- it shows the charge as being 100%.

This has happened a couple of times in the past two weeks and probably 3 or 4 other times in the last year. Any idea what is causing this? Is there anything we can do about it, or is this a hardware issue that we just have to live with?

Thanks...

Hi, tandemtwins!

Thanks for reaching out via the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I am understanding that your wife's iPad mini is not charging as expected. In fact, after a full night's charge, the iPad will display a low battery icon until it is plugged in again, at which point it displays full charge and can be used. I'd be happy to help!

First, try restarting the iPad, as described in the following article, then charging it for the night: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch . I would also suggest trying to charge the iPad without the case on.

If you continue to have trouble with the iPad mini charging, try a different power source. If you're using the AC adapter, switch to a different outlet and also try charging from a computer. If you're using a computer, try charging from a wall outlet using the AC adapter. You can get more information on charging the iPad here: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't charge

Have a great day!

That is an indication that the battery needs replacing >> iPad Battery & Power - Official Apple Support
