Setting up Docking Station at Home

Hi Guys,

>I wish to set up a Docking Station at home with my Macbook Pro, so that I have a larger screen and hence 2 screens to do my work in. I have the old Macbook Pro (500GB storage and 4GB memory) with OS X Yosemite.

>I wish to have like an extended view on the monitor and the laptop screen so both can function at the same time as a single screen like I do at work.

>So I can just come home, plug my system to the docking station and resume work.

Can you all please advise me on good monitors/keyboard/mouse and also what else I might need for this set-up and also how to go about this set-up.

Thanks!!

Moi

Monitor: first select the size you want, then compare the connections it has to your MBP's connections. Samsung, Acer, and several others make good quality displays.

Assuming you want wireless, which I recommend:

Keyboard: get Bluetooth so you don't need a transceiver plugged into the side or your MBP. I really like this one: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MLA22LL/A/magic-keyboard-us-english; you may be able to find it cheaper elsewhere, and it is available used, excellent condition at Macsales/OWC.

Mouse: again, get Bluetooth. Apple's https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MLA02LL/A/magic-mouse-2 is a good choice, as is the original Magic Mouse, though you might have to look around a bit for it: https://www.amazon.com/Apple-Magic-Bluetooth-Mouse-MB829LL/dp/B002TLTGM6

Hi,

If you purchase a compatible monitor (with appropriate connections for your MBP), all you have to do is connect it, go to System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab > uncheck the box for Mirror Displays and your desktop will show up in extended desktop mode across both the MBP's display and the external monitor.
