YouTube videos stop playing unless I have it open

up until April 27th 2017 I was able to listen to a YouTube video with the screen off. The video would continue playing if I changed tab and I could set the video to play in the background while on the home screen, all using safari. This has all changed. None of this now works. There was no update or changes made to the iPad, and this issue is being widely reported.

i Have tried to trouble shoot this, checking setting, clearing cache, installing Firefox etc. But all to no avail. All I can think is that YouTube has changed policy settings to force apple users to purchase subscriptions to YouTube red service.

has anyone else with this issue found a way to get this to work again? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

iPad Air Wi-Fi, iOS 10.3.1, YouTube videos

I haven't tried this in iOS Safari, I use another third party web browser, but if you change to using the desktop site version of YouTube, you can get background playing of videos back on the Home screen.

If the video controls do not appear under a video in the desktop website of YouTube when you initially tap a video, instead tap and hold your finger on the video until a pop up menu appears and try using the Open OR Open in new tab menu options.

Good Luck!
