Does iTunes match stream lossless audio by now?
Hi,
I'm wondering whether iTunes match offers some kind of lossless streaming capability by now. My complete iTunes Library consists of lossless ALAC-Files (CD-Rips). A couple of weeks ago I used iTunes match to make my music available in the iCloud.
After the scanning, matching and uploading process of all the songs was over, I recognised something strange: A lot of songs in my iCloud Music Library – which were matched – don't offer the expected Bitrate of 256 kBit/s, but much higher rates of 800 or even above 1000 (see the screenshots). The higher bitrate songs also don't show AAC as the filetype, but "MPEG-4" (I have the german iTunes version). But when I download a song with a bitrate of for example 1026 kBit/s, the downloaded file is the normal AAC 256 kBit/s version. Only matched songs (not all of them) show the higher bitrates. All uploaded songs show the normal AAC 256 kBit/s.
Has anybody made the same experience? Lossless song streaming would be great. Or is the displayed bitrate in the song information misleading and all songs in the iCloud Music Library are still the same old 256 kBit/s AAC files?
1st screenshot: Matched song, higher than normal bitrate (871 kBit/s).
2nd screenshot: Matched song, 256 kBit/s MPEG-4.
3rd screenshot: Uploaded song, 256 kBit/s AAC.
Note: The source of all three files are lossless ALAC-Files with the same specifications. Strange enough iTunes matched one song with a higher bitrate than the other.
