After wipe and restore of my iMac Apple Mail is missing some things.
There is a Trash icon but the Trash is empty. I've been selecting and deleting unwanted email, but
nothing ends up in Trash. The Junk folder has a lot in it, but not anything that I recognize as recent trash.
iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 10.2.1
Not sure how to expand the Trash box. There is nothing in the Trash iCon.
I eMailed a test to myself. I dragged it the Trash icon. Nothing showed up in the Trash iCon.
fyi - I recently had cause to wipe my iMac HD clean, and reinstalled with Time Machine.
My iMac is working fine, but I'm finding things like this eMail behavior that need correcting.
Drafts Mailbox shows -Drafts
Sent Mailbox shows - Sent Messages
Junk Mailbox shows - Junk
Trash Mailbox shows - Trash
Archive Mailbox shows - Archive
Only Junk Mailbox and Archive Mailbox appear as color icons
Use a browser to login to your Cox account, is the Trash empty there?
Any Trash prefs there?
In Mail>Preferences>Account>Mailbox Behavior tab>Trash, is it set to Permanently erase deleted messages on quit?
It just set to Never (erase deleted messages).
If you expand the Trash box is the account listed?
eMail yourself a test, can you physically drag that eMail to the trash icon?
Is this a POP or IMAP account, who is the Mail Provider?

Look for a trash or deleted items folder under the IMAP account heading.
Under Cox IMAP there is a Trash icon under Trash Mailbox heading set to Erase deleted messages-Never
What does it contain, if anything.

Where are you directing the trash to?
Look in Mail>Preferences>Mailbox Behaviors and tell me which mailbox is selected.
That is the standard set, so I have no idea where they are if they are not in the main Trash. Sorry.
