Why Does My iPhone 7 Always Show the Sync Symbol (since the 10.3.1 release)?

Since updating to 10.3.1 (10 days ago), my iPhone 7 always shows the sync symbol at the top of the screen (the two arrows rotating in a circle). I haven't changed any settings on my Mac (I never use my Mac) and so it appears to be something the OS update caused. My Wi-Fi runs at 125MB/s download and 20MB/s upload and so there shouldn't be a problem with delays (I could have sync'd the entire phone's capacity multiple times over during the past 10 days if needed).

Hi alex_h1,

I have the same issue, the syncing symbol is constantly circling at the top of my iPhone 6 since I installed iOS 10.3.3 and updated iTunes to 12.7. The only way I can get it to stop syncing is to put it in Airplane mode or restart it, but it comes right back on.

I have unchecked and rechecked and unchecked again the option in iTunes that says "Sync with this phone over WiFi" - which incidentally never seemed to work before iTunes 12.7 anyway, at least this is the first time for me seeing the "syncing symbol" at the top of my phone.

I can't re-setup my phone right now since I'm waiting for a phone appointment, but is that really the only way to fix this? I imagine it has to do with the apps trying to sync over WiFi and not through iTunes (new feature of iTunes 12.7)

Hi, jelarv!
Thanks for reaching out via the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I understand that since updating your iPhone recently, the syncing with iTunes status symbol appears at the top of your iPhone. This is occurring even though you have not connected your iPhone to your Mac to sync with iTunes. I'd be happy to help!
First, restart your iPhone, as described here: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Once the iPhone is back on, check to see if the sync status icon comes back. If it does, check to see if you have Wi-Fi sync set up in iTunes on your Mac: Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes using Wi-Fi - Apple Support
If Wi-Fi sync is not enabled in iTunes, reinstall the iOS software on your iPhone, following the steps under the "Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again" section of this article: If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Cheers!
