Apple Watch Series 2 GPS question

How do you turn on the built-in GPS? I bought the series 2 solely for the built-in GPS, which I figured would just be a plug and play.

I plugged in an address into my watch navigation today, with the idea that the built-in GPS would direct me. I got the error message "Apple Watch not connected to Internet." ***? I thought the watch had built-in GPS!

When I looked around on the internet, the only articles I could find is that there is GPS for workouts.

I didn't really learn how to get that to work, either, but I don't care much about that. I want to watch to direct me when I'm walking (or driving) around foreign cities and my phone doesn't work.

Help!

If you purchased your Apple Watch directly from Apple, then Apple's Standard Return Policy in the US, for example, allows for it to be returned for a refund or exchange within 14 days.

The return policy and requirements are detailed here (terms may vary in other countries / regions):

http://www.apple.com/shop/help/returns_refund

If you purchased it elsewhere, contact the merchant from which you bought it.

If you would like to send feedback or suggestions to Apple, you can do so here:

Hi

The built-in GPS on Apple Watch cannot be used for navigation or directions.

Directions are available only when using Apple Watch in conjunction with the paired iPhone.

Apple Watch can use the built-in GPS to record your route (but not to display it during your workout or to provide directions) when recording an Outdoor Walk, Run, Cycle or Open Water Swim workout via the built-in Workout app.

To view your route map, after your workout has been completed and the results have synced to the paired iPhone once the devices have reconnected (automatically):

On your iPhone, in the Activity app, tap on the Workouts tab > tap on a workout to review the results > to view your route, tap on the map icon at the foot of the workout summary.
