Why doesn't the attachment icon show up in emails sent to me?

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for change. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner.

As per this article : Mail for Mac: Add attachments in Mail

If a recipient uses Mail in OS X v10.10 or later, the attachments are included in your message. For other recipients, your message includes links for downloading the attachments, and their expiration date.

You can turn Mail Drop on or off for an account. Choose Mail > Preferences, click Accounts, select the account, click Advanced, then select or deselect “Send large attachments with Mail Drop.”

Put attachments at the end of messages

• For the current message: Choose Edit > Attachments > Insert Attachments at End of Message.
• For all messages: From the Message viewer, choose Edit > Attachments > Always Insert Attachments at End of Message (a checkmark shows it’s on).

Include or exclude attachments in replies

• Include original attachments in a reply: In the toolbar of the message window, click the Include Attachment button or choose Edit > Attachments > Include Original Attachments in Reply (a checkmark shows it’s on).
• Exclude original attachments in a reply: In the toolbar of the message window, click the Exclude Attachment button or choose Message > Remove Attachments (a checkmark shows it’s on).
• Include original attachments in all replies: From the Message viewer, choose Edit > Attachments > Include Original Attachments in Reply (a checkmark shows it’s on).

I think the description of the problem is clear as daylight and the answers don't even get anywhere near addressing the real issue. they don't get it. I have the same problem too. Wasn't even an update, it's a brand new Mac Mini with Sierra and since I've started using it I get some emails with the paperclip in the attachment column, some without. It's infuriating as I need to know if people are sending me things to work on or just answering a previous message.

APPLE SORT THIS ONE OUT for crying out loud.

The screen shot you posted is classic view , you have received mails from your known persons , as they have attached files , and used Microsoft word document to create a folder and attached in the mail and after that send to you .

For some mails , you clicked on the folder and saved the attachments , so no paper clip is shown in that particular mail and for other mails , you didn't clicked and saved on the attachment that's why it is showing paper clip in front of it .

I created an folder using Microsoft word , dragged in compose window of mail , and send to my mail id .

I'm having the same problem, and you're right -- no one is actually answering the question. Your screen shot shown above makes the problem perfectly clear, but the answers seem to have nothing to do with the problem! Incoming mail that has an attachment should show that there is an attachment! I have had to rebuild my mailboxes several times since upgrading to Sierra in order to find things. Unfortunately this attachment issue is resulting in a lot of wasted time for me! Can someone please figure out a way so that the "paper clip" indicator that there is an attachment will show up in the list of emails?

Open IMAP mail hover the cursor over the line .

You , can view the paper clip as well save option .

Are the attachments showing up in line (not icons)?

Mail menu, View, Columns, Attachment.

I have the same problem since installing new iOS software in Dec 2016. I did not find a solutions. It would be client friendly if Apple would come up with a solution. Apple ???!!!!! Come on !!
