Airdrop from Mac cannot find other Apple devices like IPhone

My iMac is late 2009 version. The operational system version is OS X 10.9.5 (Sierra)

I can find 'Airdrop' in Finder. But I cannot see my Iphone7 in airdrop when I open the airdrop both on my iphone7 and iMac. Vice versa.

May I know the reason? My iphone7 works fine with other Iphones as well as my MacPro(Mid 2015) on Airdrop.

If you can’t see the other device in AirDrop

If you can't see the person or the device that you're trying to AirDrop to, check the following:

  • Check that both of you have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on. If either of you have Personal Hotspot on, turn it off.
  • Make sure that the person you're sending to is nearby. You can't AirDrop to users who are out of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi range.
  • If the other person’s AirDrop receiving setting is set to Contacts Only, and you’re not in their Contacts, have them set their AirDrop receiving setting to Everyone.

Thanks for the tips. I have done all necessary steps and settings on both of my devices. It did not work. As I said my iphone7 works fine with other Iphones as well as my MacPro. Actually, I have checked online. It seems the Mac before 2012 cannot see IOS device in Airdrop.
