I have never been able to set-up Apple TV! But like a schmuck I keep buying it!
I am now onto my second box.
Its 3rd gen, the one with the silver remote.
HDMI plugged in but no Apple logo just an annoying random film carousel.
No recognition of my Macbook Pro.
I got Apple logo once but no choice to go to settings and update. Kept on 'computers' but no pick up of home wifi system!
I have photos of all uncooperative, failed and error screens!
Screen now reads 'no signal'
Please help me someone.
2nd and 3rd gen came with silver remote
Apple logo only appears during startup .
If not connected to internet you will only see Computers (Home Sharing) and Settings icons.
You need to enable Home Sharing for it to see iTunes on your MBP. If you mean your MBP can't see AppleTv to Airplay then you may need to configure that - are your devices on a mixed wifi/ethernet network or all wireless?
Post some screenshots - it may help. Try a different HDMI cable if you have one. Cycle through display resolutions holding menu and up arrow keys for 5 seconds.
