New Sections in Pages not showing up in Table of Contents

I'm having problems getting the Table of Contents to work properly in Pages 6.1.1. I added several new sections to the document, not at the end of the document, but near the end. These sections don't show up in the Table of Contents (TOC) at the beginning of the document. Sections following these new sections do show up in the TOC.

I've made sure the the paragraph styles assigned to the section header are the same in all sections (Heading 1), and that the Heading 1 paragraph style is checked for inclusion in the TOC. The range selected is "Entire Document".

I've tried everything I can think of, but with no success. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. I was applying the paragraph style to the header or section title, but not to a line of text in the body. I had forgotten that I had to do that.

Now I am once again putting the same text in the section title and in the body and getting the desired results. Each page in the section has the same title or header, and the TOC displays the first page in the section. Kind of awkward but it works.

I tried that. Deleted the old TOC and re-created it at the beginning of the document, but nothing changed. I also closed and re-opened the document. Quit and re-started the app too.

I'm stumped.

After closer inspection, I see that Pages v6.1.1 does dynamically add new sections to the existing ToC. When I apply the Header 2 paragraph style to these new section names, they just show up in the ToC in their chapter/section order as they appear in the document.

I don't know why your “stumped” paragraph style is not making it into the ToC. You indicated that it was selected in the ToC Format tab.

No version of Pages will auto-regenerate the table of contents as you dynamically add document content. You must remove the existing ToC, and recreate it from the Insert menu.
