Hi,

A suitable SCSI model, capable of handling both Mac OS 9 and early Mac OS X versions, could be a beige Power Macintosh G3 Desktop or Power Macintosh G3 Mini Tower. Alternatively, for example, a PowerBook G3 Series (Bronze Keyboard).

There were also other (earlier) models with SCSI, but most without the ability to run Mac OS X.

BTW, technical specifications can be found at Apple - Support - Technical Specifications. Use the Browse Tech Specs by Product. Click on, for instance, Mac desktops or Mac notebooks. Repeatedly click on the "Load more results" button until you reach the older computers (do not use Search). Also, useful information can be found at lowendmac.com .

There are none.

SCSI is a very old connection protocol.

When FireWire and USB came along, SCSI was phased over time.

The G4 Cube was the first of its kind introduced in 2000 and had state or the art components and NO SCSI.

Up until the Mac Mini, the G4 Cube was THE smallest Mac ever made.

To get a Mac close to being the same size as a G4 Cube AND has SCSI, you would have to hunt for earlier model Macintoshes, like the original Macintosh or similar style Mac from the mid 1980;s through the beginning/early 1990s.

Also, the 20th Anniversary Macintosh was fairly compact with a bulit in color LCD screen.

All these models I am referencing will never be a small as a G4 Cube as all those older models all have bulit in screens, like later iMacs.

I don't know why you need SCSI connectivity so badly.

The next small footprint Mac, WITHOUT SCSI, will be the the first Mac Mini from 2005 which was the only Mac Mini PowerMac G4 models produced before the BIG Apple switch over to IBM Intel CPUs. The late 2005 Mac Mini G4 has a 1.5 Ghz PoweePC CPU running at 167 Mhz bus speed which for a G4 model of that vintage was the fastest G4 GPU ever produced.

Good Luck!

Hi Michel,

Thanks for your comments. I'm trying to fill the missing link in my chain from my original Mac Plus that I bought new in 1985 to the present. I have the 05 Mac mini G4. I want something in between. I don't absolutely need for the link to have scsi, but I want it. And, of course, I want it to be compact. The mini G4 bridges System 9 and OS X, but I would also like to have a scsi machine to do that. I had a color Classic for a while, and I wish I hadn't let go of it, but I can't remember if it would run OS X. Maybe an LC III? I still have an old Studio display. I don't know.

So,to sum up, I would like a fairly compact Mac, vintage around 95, I guess, with a scsi port and the ability to span System 9 to OS X.

Whatever happened to the tech specs for all the old machines that Apple had in support. Can those be accessed anywhere?

Thanks again,

Robin
