iPod Shuffle connecting to car

I have a 4th gen iPod shuffle and have successfully downloaded music to it. I am able to listen to the downloaded songs using the headphones.

When I connect the iPod shuffle to my car, using the provided USB cable (car does not have an AUX port), the device is recognised but does not play any music. For some reason the only output is what appears to be the different VoiceOver messages.

I have a Vauxhall Corsa that is specifically compatible with Apple products.
