my keyboard is typing weird things like when i click the space bar it types = signs

Worth a try, but the suggestion above is better.

Restart the computer holding down the command - option/alt - P - R keys before the gray screen appears. Continue to hold until you hear the startup chime for the second time.

Reset NVRAM/PRAM

Try a SMC reset. The article covers when this is required, but doing this will not affect anything.

Are you able to test by using an external keyboard. That's normally a good indicator of whether the problem is with your keyboard or the machine as a whole.

If you (or a friend) don't have one and you can get it into an Apple store, they will test it for you. Ideally you should make an appointment.
