I have just purchased Apple TV 4th gen. I am bit disappointed to see that it is not able to produce 5.1 output to my Samsung TV.
I have attached ATV with HDMI cable to HDMI ARC port of Samsung tV. After this setting we don't get any sound at all.

Dolby Digital 5.1 is supported in ATV 4. Perhaps it's the source av file that is not encoded in 5.1, or the built-in speakers don't support it?

Otherwise, check your TV audio settings. Some TVs require that 5.1 be specifically enabled, even if the HDMI includes the proper signal.

I am using SONOS Playbar. Sound is not coming at all in my Samsung TV and Sonos Playbar both.
I am using Apple Movies app to play some latest Hollywood movies trailers, I am sure they are in 5.1 sound format.
I have changed my Samsung TV(UE50H6200) audio settings to PCM and Dolby Digital both but no sound in either of them.
In Apple TV Audio settings I have used Dolby Digital 5.1 option in place of default best possible format.
If I select Default option then I get sound in my TV and Playbar both but as PCM Stereo.
Please help.

Like I said above, my problem is not with SONOS playbar.
Apple TV is not able to send DolbyDigital sound at all to my TV.
Last night I removed SONOS playbar and also tested the Apple TV with my another Panasonic TV and in both the TVs there was no sound at all when Apple TV is set with Dolby Digital sound. As soon as I change the Apple TV setting to best possible audio format I get sound in both the TVs but as PCM stereo.
Please help.
In that case how would you get DDS out of ATV due to lack of optical output?
I believe you would always depend upon a TV to get DDS from ATV via HDMI and pass it to playbar or any home theatre system?
I am wondering why Apple specifies that ATV 4th is DDS 5.1 compatible.
It is the playbar that is unable to pass through, to any external media streaming device. There will be TV's that can push out the audio but internal speakers are not capable of outputting 5.1 directly
A lot of TV'S will output stereo when connecting through the audio out port, however even if using a TV that has a port outputting 5.1 the playbar is unable to pass through the signal when using any external streaming device. The internal speakers aren't capable of outputting 5.1 regardless.

Somehow your comments are conflicting with Apple TV specs. As per you there is no way we can get DDS 5.1 channel sound with ATV 4th gen but ATV specs claim it is compatible with DDS 5.1.
There definitely some disconnect here.
Are you using external speakers or just connected to the TV?
The built in speakers won't support it and it would be unable to pass through to playbar via ATV

That is not what I said. The Apple TV is capable of 5.1, however you will be unable to achieve that with the playbar. It is working on my system and for other users.
