If you are using Mac: (for old versions of Mac) - You actually need to sign into webmail (sign into yahoo mail on mac using safari) and go to settings and allow access to apps to set up the account.

If you are having problem on ios (iPhone, iPod, iPad): please delete the mail account (Settings-> mail -> accounts -> delete yahoo account) and re-add the account.

There is no "access to apps" in the yahoo settings template when signed in via web using Safari. Mail app with MAC OS 10.7.5 refuses to acknowledge yahoo account despite different imap preferences.

Note: yahoo account name and password verified and yahoo account can be accessed by other means and is working on iPhone but seems that my mac mail program is unforgiving. Any advice?

I have the same problem. Running OS 10.7.5 (Lion). There are some suggestions on the net, but none seem to work. Apple is no help. It seems Apple wants everyone to abandon Lion and move up to the newest OS. The only problem with that is that not all of your programs and apps are happy with the new OS upgrade. For example, my iPhone has been updated to the latest OS, but now my Mac OS 10.7.5 will not recognize the iPhone.

I haven't tried trashing the preferences in the internet folder for Yahoo. That may work? But, I haven't seen anything useful fix posted for this anomaly of mail rejecting the Yahoo account.
