Hi

The developer of MapMyRun advises that their Apple Watch app does not currently support tracking distance-based workouts via the built-in GPS on Apple Watch Series 2 models. Instead, the paired iPhone must be taken along:

For further assistance with using MapMyRun, I suggest that you consult the developer's support resources and/or submit a support request (you may also wish to submit a feature request):

In order to track your route map without needing to take your iPhone along, you may prefer to use the built-in Workout app:

Hello,

It looks like you have the Apple Watch Series 2 . If you do, the Series 2 has its own built in GPS, so you can leave your iPhone at home.

From Apple's Website:

Built-in GPS

Go. Even without your iPhone.

With built-in GPS, Apple Watch Series 2 can record precise distance, speed, and pace while you’re walking, running, or cycling outdoors. It picks up a signal right away, so you don’t have to wait to get moving. And when you’re done, you can check your iPhone to see a map of your route and where you ran your fastest.

Thanks Jonathan UK! This appears to indeed, be the case.

As lame as it is, MapMyRun does not appear to use the GPS built-in to the Apple Watch Series 2.

It's quite misleading that they say they now support the Apple Watch and WatchOS 3, yet they don't even use the internal GPS from the watch. I'm switching to Strava. What's the point in being forced to carry both my iPhone and my Apple Watch Series 2 when Strava, Apple Workouts, and Nike Running Club all work perfectly without the iPhone on my runs??
