It would help to know exactly which 2011 MBP you have, and what OS you're running.

As stated, this is often RAM related. Is this the original RAM, or has it been replaced/upgraded?

To troubleshoot and test each RAM module and the slots they fit in: remove one of the modules, try running normally. If it works, you know that module and that RAM slot is good. If no luck, move the module to the other slot and try running again. Repeat with other module.

If none of this works, there's a chance both RAM modules are bad, but that's a very very very slim chance. Much more likely is that one or both of the slots on the logic board is "dying," or the controller is going bad, which is still the logic board, a very costly replacement; it may well be that the cost is well over what your MBP is worth, in which case it would probably be better to save that money and put it toward a new/er Mac.

You should probably go to an Apple Store "genius" bar and they may be able to do more in depth tests: https://support.apple.com/contact
