How to add an emoticon in to video iMovie?

Hi,

the idea is that there is a video of a person speaking and emoticons are appearing around her. There are emoticons and symbols available in iMovie but it's impossible just to grab them and put them into the video. How do I do this? Thanks!

The way I did it was to go to 'Edit' > 'Emoji & Symbols' then a box will pop up, select the emoji you want to use, on the right hand side theres a title 'font variation' under that is your selected emoji - right click that and chose 'copy character info', then select whatever style of title text you want on the video and paste into the text box. Delete the descriptive words that come along with it and just leave the emoji. It will then appear on your video like a normal text insertion would. I hope that's helpful and works for you too!

Have you tried them to add a title? You can enter the emoji into the text fields of a title instead of the regular title text, if you open the "Edit > Emoji & Symbols" panel.

Or create a photo with emoji on a blue or transparent background. You can use the markup tools in Preview to create a picture with emoji and save it as a JPEG. Then use the Video overlays in iMovie to animate the picture with the emoji.

Quick and dirty, using the "Far, far away title":
