Cannot play youtube on lock screen

Before the latest IOS I could play a youtube video on my iphone and it would stop when I lock/turn off the screen. When I hit the play button on my headphones it would continue with the screen off so I could listen and not waste the battery. Now when you hit play on the headphones it starts the MP3 player. Even if you pause the video by hitting the home button and open the swipe menu the player shows the video text, but when you hit play it changes it to MP3 again. It's like the new IOS automatically reverts to the MP3 feature even when you have another player/application open. Does anybody know a way around it?

Hi aventador12,

- open the video in Safari on your Iphone

- request Desktop site

- play the video in Safari, and once playing (it will be full-screen mode)

- hit the HOME button and swipe up for the control menu then hit play

or

-hit the lock button to lock the screen then hit the lock button again and click play

Basically you need to do the same steps as before but request desktop site first.

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about YouTube. This change was recent, but affects both the YouTube app and newer versions of Safari. YouTube now offers a subscription called YouTube Red to allow background app and add-free playing, and new original shows. You can read about this here: YouTube Red .
