Screenshots keep redirecting to Mail app?

Currently using macbook pro with touchbar 13" and on Sierra. I haven't had this problem until today but whenever I try to screenshot anything (using keyboard shortcuts command shift 3 or command shift 4) the apple Mail app opens and my screenshot ends up as an attachment, rather than going to my desktop. I've tried changing the location of the screenshots back to desktop using terminal using this guide: http://www.idownloadblog.com/2014/06/15/how-to-change-where-screenshots-are-save d-on-mac/ but it still doesn't work 😢 I've tried restarting my laptop but the problem still remains. To get my image I end up having to save as attachment in the mail app and drag it back to my desktop, which is plain frustrating. Does anyone have any solution to this? thank you
