How do I stop Mail from deleting emails on my macbook pro?

Mail on my Macbook Pro OS 10.12.4 is automatically deleting all email older than a week. How do I stop it from doing that? Seems like this is something simple that could be changed in preferences, but I can't find it. I've done a search on it but I cannot find the right solution. I'm probably not using the best search words. Thank you.

I still don't see my issue addressed here. Maybe I'm just not smart enough. 🙂


I saw the click-on menu for setting the time before erasing messages, but there are only two, one is for junk messages. The other is for deleted messages. There is no control for mailbox or inbox messages.


This has never been an issue before. I've used Mac desktop and laptops for decades, and Mail as my email application on all of them for years. None have ever - by default - deleted all of my inbox messages automatically after a set amount of time.
