Mail on my Macbook Pro OS 10.12.4 is automatically deleting all email older than a week. How do I stop it from doing that? Seems like this is something simple that could be changed in preferences, but I can't find it. I've done a search on it but I cannot find the right solution. I'm probably not using the best search words. Thank you.
I still don't see my issue addressed here. Maybe I'm just not smart enough. 🙂
I saw the click-on menu for setting the time before erasing messages, but there are only two, one is for junk messages. The other is for deleted messages. There is no control for mailbox or inbox messages.
This has never been an issue before. I've used Mac desktop and laptops for decades, and Mail as my email application on all of them for years. None have ever - by default - deleted all of my inbox messages automatically after a set amount of time.
That did not do it. Messages were retained by Mail to April 26. Now the earliest message is May 1. Somehow it is deleting all messages over a week old. I see no place to change that in the preferences.

If you click on drop down arrows of erase deleted messages options are shown .
This may be something weird in Sierra. I would post there and see if someone can help: macOS Sierra

Open Mail > Mail menu > Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors > set as desired.
EDIT: I'm on 10.11.6, so 10.12.4 could be different, but it should be something similar.
I tried that. There is no option that seems to apply. The closest are controls that set how long before "Erase junk messages" and another for "erase deleted messages."

Ok, go to your email provider's website (like Google gmail or yahoo) and you'll have to change the settings there.
I don't think so. I don't have to do that for my desktop or my old Macbook.

Thanks, glad to know it is not just me. I'm going to set those two controls to "never" clear the junk and deleted messages and see what effect that has on the inbox.
