New audiobook distorted on old iPod

Just bought a new audiobook from iTunes store: Golden Prey by John Sanford. Plays okay on computer. Voice is very distorted on my ancient iPod. All other audiobooks that I have sound fine on iPod (even ones which just came out several months ago). This audiobook was just released last week.

Any ideas? Have audiobook file types upgraded to the point where I'll have to buy a new iPod to listen to new audiobooks?

iPod classic, iOS 1.x

Hi Adeimantus,

I understand you are experiencing a sound quality issue with an audiobook on your iPod classic. Since there is no issue with other audiobooks and this one also has no issue in iTunes, let's have you remove or unsync the audiobook from the iPod and then sync it again via iTunes as a test.

Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes on your computer using USB

If the issue persists, delete the audiobook from iTunes, download it again via your past purchases and then repeat the same procedure as outlined above.

iTunes for Windows: Delete songs, playlists, or other items

iTunes for Mac: Delete songs, playlists, or other items

Redownload music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books from the iTunes Store, iBooks Store, and App Store

Please let us know if the issue persists, and thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

Cheers.
