MacBook resets time at every restart

I have a MacBook Pro 15" from 2015. A few days ago when booted the clock was reset to 1.1.2038 00:00. I had to de- and reactivate the auto-set function in the setting multiple times before it worked again. Since then at every restart it goes back to that time (not 00:00, but as if the clock had been running since then). While the time isn't working I can't get to any webpage due to outdated signatures, and it's really annoying to go into the settings every time I restart.

I have had the MacBook for 1.5 years now and have had it plugged in almost exclusively. The battery is at 59 cycles and 93% health.

What could be the cause of the problem and how could I fix it?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.4)

I suggested the following to another user who marked the post as "Solved," so it sounds like it worked; give it a try:

Try resetting the NVRAM: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063.

Set Date & Time to Automatically.

Set Time Zone

Boot into Safe Mode and repeat the above if necessary: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

I've seen this issue posted several times recently, and I think the common denominator was Sierra 10.12.4. If by any chance you don't get this resolved and you have a Time Machine backup or clone prior to the .4 update, it sure would be interesting to see if restoring from that TM backup or booting from the clone would resolve the issue....
