How To Fix WiFi Calling Issues

When you have WiFi Calling enabled, and the network on your phone shows as "CARRIER-NAME WiFi", then WiFi Calling is enabled and active on your phone. This means all your calls will be over WiFi and not cellular. Thus, your WiFi network must be properly configured to allow WiFi calling. Unfortunately, neither Apple nor most carriers point out this requirement, nor do they tell you how to fix it. That's the object of this post.

When on WiFi, are you having problems where you don't receive calls? Or, calls are slow to connect? Or, your voice-mail is delayed before you receive it? These are among the symptoms of your WiFi network not being properly configured for WiFi calling.

WiFi calls are placed over IPsec VPNs. This is good. This means that your WiFi call is encrypted. It also means that your WiFi network and Internet connection must be configured to allow inbound IPsec VPN connections. To enable IPsec VPN connections, your router or firewall must allow inbound traffic to the ports UDP/500 and UDP/4500. You need to check router or firewall manual to determine how to open these ports -- that I can't tell you how to do, just that you need to do it.

I hope this helps!
