I just got a B&W G3 tower with a 500mhz G4 processor upgrade, which I want to use iMovie on. OSX is loaded and running well on 320mb RAM. Can I use an internal NEC DVD-RW drive in the G3? It came from a PC, the model is NEC ND 1300-A. I can't find an answer from NEC anywhere. Thanx and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all. G-47
You'll have no problems with a third-party burner program like Toast 6 or 7. As to whether it has native support in Apple's "iPrograms," check for any user reviews of that NEC burner at Accelerate Your Mac's drive compatibility database.
Patch Burn (http://www.patchburn.de/) has worked fine for me in terms of giving full burning capabilities for non-supported drives. It's easy to install, and should it give you issues, it is easy to uninstall the driver changes that it makes. Though it should work fine with third party burners, give PatchBurn a shot and see if you like it.
