HDCP issue with Hulu app on Apple TV (4th g)

With the new Hulu upgraded app on my Apple TV, I'm unable to stream any show. I get the new UI, I'm able to navigate thru all the menus I can even watch the new product tour, but I can't simply stream any show. Every time I try, I get the spinning ball, after a couple of minutes I get a red forbidden dot on the bottom left corner of the screen and then I get a message that says:

"This content requires HDCP for playback. Either your HDMI cable isn't properly connected, or your HDMI connection doesn't support HDCP. Please reconnect the HDMI cable from your Apple TV to your HDTV and try again." Netflix, NBC, ABC and all other apps work just fine.

I restarted my Apple TV and my TV, checked all connections and nothing. I think that the problem is the new Hulu upgrade and not my hardware. Everything was just working fine with the old app. I have a 55" two year old Sony HD TV and a fourth generation Apple TV. Any ideas on now to fix it? Thanks.

Cesar

Been there tried that no luck. Tried different hdmi ports, different cables, different tv, tried adding a splitter that's supposed to fix this problem, removed the app, reloaded the app, reset the device to factory defaults, tried different networks and every other fix I can think of. It works on the old Apple TV. It works on my iPad and pc but nowhere else

Has anybody found a solution yet? Why is apple not reacting? At least informing users by hulu is the minimum I would expect.

All the trouble customers of the apple TV platform go through. Rebooting, resetting, buying new cables, rerouting cables, switching TVs... and for what?

I have to assume that not all users are affected. Otherwise that would devastating for Hulu. But how do those other setups differ?

I know. My expectation was not that Apple would post here. My expectation is that Apple has an interest of protecting their customers from frustration and wasting money.

I am not so sure yet if it is only an issue with the app. But even if it was... how many frustrating hours where spent and obsolete replacement cables where bought? And that is not because of the app but because of lack of communication. If hulu would announce: we have discovered issues with the new app and hdcp error and we are working on a fix... most users would be happier.

And who is in charge of defining the quality and communication expectations and rules on the apple TV platform?

The funny thing is that I would have expected much more complains in the web. But hulu hdcp error on ATV4 in 2017 doesn't seem that common.

I have to assume that I am just among a very small group of users.

Hi vazandrew

I really appriciate you taking your time answering here. And I feel that you want to help by convincing me to do a certain thing. And you did it in a polite way which I also appriciate.

I have a ticket open at hulu already. But as you can see the problem exists for quite some time now and has not been resolved nor communicated officially.

But you must either think I don't get your logic and thats why you repeatedly state that the right company to communicate that issue to, should be hulu.

Or it is actually the case that you don't understand me. My problem is with apple. I am happy to pay extra to get an extra service and quality. That includes quality checks by apple. This hulu app falls short in quality with regards to apple standards and I am asking the forum... how can this happen. Why is apple not taking care of this like they do with other quality issues.

An easy fix by apple would probably be to reject the new hulu app and force hulu to offer the older version again in the store until fix. I dont trust that we as users can get hulu to act this way in an appropriate amount of time. I am saying this because I am responsible for an application myself for an IT company. Thats why I am an apple customer and not google. I want someone to act in favour of the user group who has more impact, a vision and a higher goal.

If it where up to the users (including me) it would probably very easy to get adult content on an atv. I am sure there are alot of developers who would serve this market niche. But I am actually happy that apple decides not to support it. Its all about curation of content with apple. And I don't have the feeling someone is curating this hulu app. If you want a free market where quality, content and price is only up to supply and demand then apple is definitely not the right choice.

And yes: I have a ticket open at apple too.
