save templates in motion 5.3

I have Motion 5.3 installed on my desktop iMAC and on a iMAC Pro laptop. If I create a template (such as a lower third) on the laptop, save it and then publish template, it gets saved in users/name/movies/motiontemplates and I am able to create a new category.

On my desktop, this will not work. In the users/name/movies/motion templates folder there is only one subfolder Generators. When I create a new directory during the publish template process it doesn't accept my new directory, it shows all the regular ones, vine, swarm, 3D etc. If I try then to save the template saying:

Unable to save template media to directory “/Users/andrew/Movies/Motion Templates.localized/Compositions.localized/3D.localized/New Template/Media”

Anyone know what might be going on and how to fix it?

Many thanks,

Andrew

What kind of templates? Please clarify.

There are five different kinds of templates (Motion Project, and four templates for FCP X: title, effect, transition, generator). Only for a Motion Project you would get to choose where to save; for the other four, you get to choose a category and theme, and they end up in the proper locations so that FCP X can access them.

A lower-thirds is a title. When saving a title it won't end up in the Compositions folder.

The fact that you see only a Generators.localized folder suggests that you may need to create the other folders.

Go to the Motion Templates folder, and create new folders called "Titles", "Effects", "Compositions", "Transitions".

You will need to add the ".localized" file extension, but do not do it directly. Select each of the above folders, press Command-I to open a Get Info window and add the extension there:
