Final Cut Pro audio when using Multicam

Having used FCP for over 2 years, latest upgrades have caused problems.

Main one in Multicam I cannot set dual mono on the audio tracks, I detach and expand audio, need to set dual mono on both clips, recorded as dual mono, as individual clips I can set dual mono.

Also Software now freezes on a regular basis

As I write this software freezes again. Using MAC Mini i7 8Gb Ram latest OS

You can't change the audio to dual mono on the multicam clip, but you can easily change it at once for all clips inside the multicam clip.

Double-click to open the multicam clip in Angle Editor, select all, and change to dual mono in the Inspector.

Regarding freezes, that will need a lot more detailed information. The current version is quite stable for most users.

The reasons for crashes and instability can be very diverse, and without any details it is impossible to guess.

You should always delete preferences after a crash - hold down command and option while starting and click Delete Preferences.

Thanks guys for your responses, I had tried going into angle editor and setting the dual mono there, but unless I have missed something you cannot edit in the angle editor, no blade in the angle viewer! so when you go back the the multicam clip in the in the timeline the two channels are are still locked together.

However taking your advice looked at FCP preferences I noted that under the import tab, the box "separate mono and group stereo audio" was ticked, unticked it, cleared project, imported footage yet again, waited as usual for import/transcoding to finish, made sure both clips where dual mono, made new MC clip, dragged into timeline and its all there, two clips with dual mono! thanks.

Not sure what above preference actually does as the highlight doesn't explain it fully, as FCP help menu is good at the sales and not at real issues.

FCP has really locked up since the last update, yesterday part of trying to solve the above, I tried to "synchronise" the two clips instead of MC and it just gave me the spinning Katherine wheel for over an hour, tried to cancel, tried to quit FCP, tried to close MAC, couldn't force quit for over an hour, other software was working, had to pull the plug, not the first time when clicking to do some action in FCP you get the spinning wheel for long time and have to force quit, other software haven't had a problem, I suspect bugs in latest update.

Anyway thanks again for your responses, all said the same thing which is comforting, will see how in goes.

Still learning the new layout since the update last autumn,

Thanks again from the UK

I am glad you sorted it out in a different way, but I don't understand the above.

The angle editor is not meant to substitute the editing you do in the project timeline.

As its name implies, it allows to edit your multicam angles - including adding more angles, reordering them, adjust sync between angles, and even adding effects to the clips in your angles; among all of that, you can change the audio configuration of your clips (in this case, from stereo to dual mono).

What I would have expected is to go there, change the audio configuration, step back to your project, and edit away...
