Airport Express PPPoE Settings

Hello!

I am having a very difficult time connecting my Airport Express via PPPoE. I have had my little network up and running for about two years with veryy little problems, just your typical re-boot here and there. No all of the sudden I can not connect to my DSL modem any longer. Here's the situation:

I have to connect using PPPoE. My setting on the AEBS are as follows:
It is set to: Connect via PPPoE. With firmware 6.3

My PowerBook is as follows:
It is NOT set for PPPoE, but rather DHCP.
The light on the AE is solid green, the status says that I am connected to the internet, but I am not!

If I connect directly from my modem (Speedstream 5200) everything works fine. The AE picks up the correct IP address when it is connected to the modem. I have tried several different configurations to get this to work. My ISP (Windstream) told me to contact Apple. This is so frustrating!! I greatly appreciate any any help.

12 Powerbook w/ SuperDrive, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You mention both the AirPort Express and the AEBS, so I would like for you to confirm your current network configuration. I'm assuming that you are using the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) and understand it to be something like the following:

DSL modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] AX > (wireless) > PowerBook...correct?

If so, let's double-check your AX's settings, but first I recommend a complete power recycle of your network components.

Modem/Router Power ReCycling
- Power-off the DSL modem & AX. (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
- Power-on the DSL modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
- Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.

Setup the AX
Temporarily, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, use the AirPort Admin Utility, to check these settings:

AirPort tab
- Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
- AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
- Create a closed network (unchecked)
- Wireless Security: Not enabled
- Channel: Automatic
- Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible

Internet tab
- Connect Using: PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)
- Account Name: <ISP account name>
- Change password: <ISP password>
- Always stay connected (checked)
- WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic

Network tab
- Distribute IP addresses (checked)
- Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)

My PowerBook is as follows:
It is NOT set for PPPoE, but rather DHCP.

That would be correct as only the device connected directly to the DSL modem would be required to be set up for PPPoE.

If I connect directly from my modem (Speedstream 5200) everything works fine.

When the Mac is connected directly to the modem, did you have to setup the AirPort (on the Mac) for PPPoE?
