why does my Mac show a keyboard in the top right corner when I switch it on?

I am trying to log on to my Mac and it is not accepting my password. I suspect that it could be because it is showing a keyboard in the top right corner of the start up screen. How can I remove this keyboard sign?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, iOS 10.3.1

Hi,

First, try an external keyboard to enter your password and login.

If no luck, try resetting the NVRAM: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063.

The keyboard in the input menu is from setting System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Sources > Show input menu in the menu bar; if you don't like that uncheck it.
