THank you, Diana. I tried your suggestion, and it did not help.
After I logged off iCloud and back on, I let iPad charge overnight while locked hoping my reregistration might take affect. No improvement. I then turned off Find My iPad having read on somewhere that that might help. In that condition, I still get Activation Required demands, but now I only have to enter my Apple ID and not my Apple password. The latter is awkward but easily remembered, so this is a significant improvement.
THe frequency of Activation Required varies with apps. I use Safari far more than any other, and it seems most vulnerable. For over an hour yesterday, the 13th, I was getting hit every 6 or 7 minutes. The device was essentially useless to me. I went to iCloud settings, looked at the list of apps linked to iCloud, and turned Safari off. This morning, I still get hit on Safari, but not so often. Went back to iCloud settings and turned the Safari app back on. Seems to have made no difference.
My wife spends little time on Safari, but lots on Messages, Washington Post, Mail (Gmail), and Zillow. She has seen Activation Required only one time, today on Zillow.
I'd hoped to expand my use of iCloud by finding how I might use iCloud Drive, but now I'm wary that in might step on another hidden land mine. Instead, I have my fingers crossed waiting for 10.3.2.
Thank you again from Bob
