buyback-pc:~ username$ appearing as a bash prompt

Hello all,

i have recently been traveling and have had to connect to several unsecured wifi networks (90% of the time through several VPN services). As an IT student i have been running several vm's with virtual box. i have also downloaded several different vpn services during this time period (some of which i deleted after different issues then tried my best to both trash the applications and search through my library manually and remove remaining files etc..

Logging on to terminal i now see buyback-pc:~ username$ as a prompt in bash.

when i execute pwd i am in the / directory

i am concerned my macbook may have been compromised.

can anyone explain why this is being displayed

MacBook Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12.4)
