why did iPhoto add a border our photo and how do we remove it?

My wife was editing a photo in iPhoto and somehow it developed a black border. We can't figure out how it got there or how to get rid of it. Have any of you run in to this or do you have any suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion. It didn't affect the problem border we're trying to get rid of, unfortunately. I should clarify that the problem isn't in the "iPhoto window" which displays photo thumbnails and is controlled by that preference pane. The line is being created in that one individual image we're working with; when we email the image in question, that unwanted black border line is a part of affected image. Other photos in the library are not affected.
