Unable to send attachments via iMessage from my MacBook Pro OS Sierra (10.12.4)

I have a MacBookPro - MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011), 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3,

320 GB SATA Disk, Running OS Sierra 10.12.4 (16E195).

I cannot send via iMessage pics from Photos, contacts (VCFs) from Contacts, Attachements in general to other iMessage users. I have to do this from my iPhone or iPad.

How do I fix this?

Here is how to send a photo from Photos as an iMessage. The analogous process works for Contacts.

Open the Photos (or Contacts) app. Find the photo (or contact) you wish to send. Tap the symbol circled in my screen shot below, then choose "Messages" from the drop-down. A message will be created, which you may then address and annotate.

When you click on Messages in the context of the screen shot you posted, you should see a result like this:

That's the photo you would be attempting to send showing up on the right. Once you type in a recipient name, and the Messages application can figure out from that name it's an iMessage you are trying to send, you will be offered the opportunity to annotate with text.

If you cannot get this far, then see if you could send a standard simple text iMessage from the Messages app. If not, perhaps you have not set up your iCloud address information correctly there.
