"launchd" using 70% of cpu

Hi, I just bought my mac last year and has been spectacular in every way including the battery life ever since.

Just yesterday I got this re-direct virus which re-directs my pages to scam pages and now my laptop runs really hot without me doing anything and drains my battery 3 times as fast now.

I turned on my computer today and left it for 10 minutes and it got so hot that the fan needed to come on - I didn't even move my mouse.

The problem seems to come from "launchd" which I don't know what it is but I know that it constantly uses about 70% of the cpu. How do I fix this before it permanently damages the battery life?

Thanks

MacBook Air, iOS 10.3.1
