Hello,

Remove and download the iOS update again

If you still can't install the latest version of iOS, try downloading the update again:

  1. Go to Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage. Under Storage tap Manage Storage.
  2. Find the iOS update in the list of apps.
  3. Tap the iOS update, then tap Delete Update.
  4. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and download the latest iOS update.

If you don’t see the update in the list of apps or if the issue happens again, you need to update your device with iTunes.

I would follow these instructions that are in the support article that you were reading and from which you were linked to this support site.

did this as suggested If you see an error when you update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support but still not successful. what worked is that i bought extra cloud storage and did my backup there and transferred to my new phone. the problem is that in the in the old phone, my imessage settings was still saved despite reset. my mobile phone is still loaded there and you can only do imsg/facetime via email. any tips?

thank you

This doesn't explain why these Verification Updates don't verify correctly, nor does this solve the problem for someone who uses an iDevice independently from iTunes. This is a solid work-around, but I'd love to know how to fix the problem so it will verify an OTA update instead of constantly being told to do it another way. If OTA updates are still something Apple supports, then they should have a fix/solution to the OTA updates not working, shouldn't they? And not just a work-around, suggesting to do it a different way, which requires the customer own another piece of computing hardware. Does anyone know how to fix a "Verifying Update" failure?!? Or does everyone not know, including Apple's tech employees?!?
