Can I change the caller ID setting so that the phone number appears for incoming callers not in my contacts?

When I get a call on my Iphone 6s plus, and the number is not in my contact list, the Caller ID displays "Unknown Name" and will not display the phone number. I can view the number only when I look at my call log after the phone stops ringing and it has gone to voicemail. This is incredibly annoying because I'd rather see the phone number to determine if it's a spam/auto dialer, which it usually is or if it's someone from my area.

My carrier is metro pcs but after searching online, it appears this is happening with other carriers as well.

So if other carriers are experiencing this how is it an Apple issue, caller id is your phone carrier feature, contact metro pcs to resolve your issue.

If it is displaying Unknown Caller, that means the caller is not sending the Caller ID information, therefore you are not seeing the number. If it is showing Wireless Caller, that is the information that is coming from the carrier, and I know a number of wirless carriers in my area had that as part of their Caller ID info in the past, since they could not send the actual caller's account name. That has since changed, and wireless calls will show the account holder name with the number, and depending on how that is transmitted by the carrier, you would see Wireless Caller, the account holder's name, even if it is not in your contacts, or just the number. So many wireless carriers and no real consistency when it comes to what they send with the call. To address the other part of your question though, there is no setting on the iPhone for you to set/change to show the number. That information comes from the carrier.
