iTunes 7 making non-standard ID3 tags?

Ok, I have the latest iTunes 7 for Mac installed and a 60 GB iPod video. The two work great together.

This Christmas my wife bought me a Cowon A2, for watching videos (it has a 4" screen and is widescreen). The Cowon also plays MP3 files, but it's not that great an MP3 player. For music the iPod is quite superion.

The Cowon works by simple drag and drop of files onto it, and it does display album cover art on the screen. I dragged some songs over to it from my iTunes library and proceeded to play them.

Any MP3s that I added artwork to in iTunes 6 show the artwork properly on the Cowon. Any MP3s that I added artwork to in iTunes 7, fail to show any artwork on the Cowon. I added the artwork in 7 by dragging in the "Get Info" window. I did not use the automatic album cover finder.

Also, I moved my entire iTunes library onto a Linux PC that I have in my family room. I loaded up a music player called Amarok and imported all the music. All the iTunes 6 MP3s show album cover art, but the iTunes 7 ones do not.

What's wierder is if I look at the actual iTunes 7 tagged MP3 in Media Rage, it shows album cover art. If I look at it using a Linux program called Easytag, it doesn't show any embedded artwork, for iTunes 7 tagged files, but does for iTunes 6 tagged files.

Anyone else seen anything like this? Any way to get iTunes 7 to add artwork the way 6 did?
