Carplay says No Internet Connection

Cannot use Apple Maps with CarPlay in a 2017 Hyundai Elantra via USB -- instead I get an error message "The Internet connection appears to be offline". I'm using an Phone 6s with iOS10.3.2 and carrier is AT&T Wireless. Problem occurs both with and without using personal hotspot, although it works fine when sitting in the dealer's parking lot connected to their wifi. CarPlay's other functions do work: Messages, Phone, Music. Car itself does not have wifi. Any idea where the problem is (car? phone settings? carrier?).

What about when there is No internet, ether wifi or Celular? The maps look like a useless app, as you can use it on your iPhone (with cache) when you're "offline", but not with CarPlay. When it will be fixed or when other Maps apps with offline support will be allowed?
