"Firmware damaged" after update, please help.

I just got my ipod shuffle 2nd generation and connected it, itunes read it fine, I uploading songs onto it just fine. Put it back onto the dock later and Itunes wanted to update it. I updated the ipod and now itunes doesn't recognize the ipod. I tried the 5 r's with no luck and being stuck at restore because I couldn't acess my ipod through itunes. I tried another computer and it couldn't read the ipod either after resyncing it. The shuffle now just blinks green-amber-amber when I turn it on or dock it which according to the instructions meant Firmware damaged. Also the after docking the computer plays the ipod connected sound followed by the disconnected sound and repeats it ever 20 seconds or so. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim

Also when I conect my ipod in the dock without itunes already open it opens up reading the ipod not as my named ipod but it notices the presence of an ipod then it has a message that says "Itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes." but when I hit "ok"(the only option) Itunes stops recognizing the ipod.

Tim,

I had the same problem where the iPod would seem to disconnect before I had the opportunity to restore it. So I performed the following time-sensitive steps:

1-Plug the ipod into the computer using the usb cable
2-Open "My Computer" (observe how the over time the ipod drive comes and goes)
3-When the ipod is visible, right click and select format
(Leave the format window open even when the ipod goes away)
4-Check the enable quick format
5-When the ipod drive is once again visible, click start
(it may fail because the drive goes away, but keep trying)
6-Once the ipod drive has been formated, launch iTunes and restore the firmware

Let me know if this works for you. Remember this was a time sensitive solution for me, so be patient and persistent. It worked for me after appearing and disappearing some 7-10 times.
