Extra folders expand in Photos

I have set up many normal folders in Photos (not smart folders), with a fair amount of nesting.

When I expand a folder in Photos, it expands unintended folders. It's kind of like remembering previous folders I had open but had collapsed. When I try to expand a different folder, it expands both of them. Very annoying.

I'm not sure what you mean? Photos has smart albums, but not smart folders.

Are you trying to expand folders or albums? And are you doing this in the Albums view or in the sidebar?

I prefer to work with folders and albums from the sidebar.

When I expand a folder by clicking the disclosure triangle next to the folder name, only this folder will be expanded. I cannot recreate the problem you are describing. Could you explain withe more detail? Perhaps a screenshot?

Not that big a deal, just an extra step that I think should be unnecessary.

Photos is trying to be helpful, and occasionally it is causing extra work.

Like, when I am dragging photos to an album, it will open that album and I have to get back to the view I was working with.

You may want to send feedback to Apple and explain, why this intended behavior is disrupting for your workflow.

Thanks for trying to help.

I am actually referring to Albums, though I called them folders. I contacted Support, and we worked out what was happening. I have about a dozen Albums, and within each Album I have multiple Albums, some nested to a third level of more Albums. The issue comes up when I select an album at a second or lower level which then shows all the images in that Album.

I then proceed to collapse that view at the top level, but am still displaying the images from the sub-album in the right-side window. If I then expand another top-level Album, it expands both the new and previous lists of Albums. Support suggested this was intended behavior, to show where you were, though agreed it was problematic given how I wanted it to work. The workaround is to select the top-level Album first, and then expand it to see it's sub-Albums. Not that big a deal, just an extra step that I think should be unnecessary.
