iPhone text alerts don't ring on phone, but do ring on Apple Watch

Hello -

I need help. When I receive an iMessage or text message from heathens (non-iPhone users 😝) the alert does not ring on my phone, but it does ring on the Apple Watch. This is a serious problem for me, because sometimes the watch is on my night stand (like at night, charging) and I never hear the message alert.

I have checked the knowledge base and was not able to find any help. I did find this not-very-helpful article (If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker - Apple Support) but it didn't offer anything I had not already tried.

Has anyone else encountered this problem, and if yes... were you able to fix it?

Thank you.

I just got the latest apple watch3 with cell. Everything paired etc. with Verizon. told to keep wireless and Bluetooth to on for my iphone6. If I am sitting in room with watch on, iphone in my pocket how do I get my iphone to also ring? I want the phone to also make it's normal sound when I get a phone call and text message as even though I have the sound and tap to high on the watch I don't always get it depending on what I am doing. It comes thru on the watch but I just may not hear the sound or feel the vibration though it does it on the watch. I just want the phone to also ring. Is there some other setting to get them both to go off when a call or text comes thru.

Do they ring on your watch at all times? It is designed to go to your watch when you aren't using your phone, if you are using your phone it should go to the phone. Also if you watch is on the charger then it should go to your phone as well. Is it something that you are getting on your watch no matter what? This is a place to start, if you are getting it all the time on your watch, then check in the Watch App > Notifications > and there you can find all the apps that can send notifications and you can check to make sure they "Mirror my iPhone" as that will cause them to work this way. If "Custom" is checked, then you'll be able to see how they are all set and when they will or won't get sent to the watch.

Thank you for the information.

I think this is what is happening. I don't recall having played with these settings, but they are all over the place. I am going to test them tonight after work and I think this will address it.

I just got my watch and didn't know it was going to take additional setup.

Cheers!

I don't know why but that started to happen to my iPhone/watch after I've synced my library to a new computer, seens unrrelated but it's a coincidence, on Sunday 08/27 I've contacted Apple support because I was having trouble transferring songs to my iPhone after I've go a new computer. I have an iP7 and in July I've got an Watch Series 2 and since last week, I haven't been receiving the notifications on my phone, only if the phone is unlocked or far away from the watch. Also if the phone and watch are next to each other, even when charging, the text notifications only shows on the watch.

I'm currently living in PR and I've been to AT&T and an Apple authorized retailer, and they have told me that it's supposed to be like that, to me, it makes no sense, and as I've stated before, it was getting the alerts until last week. I have a friend who was an iP7 and the Watch Series 1 and is not having those issues. Hopefully Apple will fix this problem soon.
