Add person to a one person iMessage

My daughter sent me a text message saying she needed me to pick up something. I wanted to add my wife to that text message so that she could follow the rest of the conversation. I found no way of doing that. I did find that if it was already a Group message I could add or delete people, but from just one person I could not add another. Can this be done?

You can only do that with an existing group iMessages. It has to already have at least three people in the thread.
