I've just been offered to upgrade my iPhone from a 6 to a 7 early with no fees. Naturally I agreed. It's arrived and is in the box but the box isn't sealed. Is this normal? I'm worried they've sent me a refurbished model.

I don't believe that Apple sells any refurbished iPhone 7 currently.
All new iPhones come sealed. I am not 100% sure but I believe refurbished iPhones come sealed as well.
It sounds like you may have gotten a used iPhone.
I would suggest contacting Vodafone, and ask them directly, as they should have a direct answer.
Your best bet would be to contact Vodafone and ask them about it.
Both new, and refurbished iPhones from Apple come in sealed boxes.
Not sure what Vodafone's policy would be in that regard though.
It's also possible, Vodafone opened the box to insert the sim card with your service so it would be ready for you to use.
Again, Vodafone would be the one to answer that.

I would return it for a sealed box. This device can be perfectly fine, but you never know.
