Encoding MPEG-4 for set top DVD players

I have a Philips DVP3040 player that supports MPEG-4 and DivX. I have been able to encode Quicktime movies to DivX that the player can read from a CD, but I have had no luck in converting a Quicktime movie to MPEG-4 for playback. When I put the burned CD into the player, it responds as an unreadable disc. Is it possible to configure Quicktime to export an MPEG-4 movie that this player can read?

Thanks,

Tony

From what I put together the MPEG-4 you player supports is what is called, "generic mpeg4." Something to do with DivX. From what I've read people who has this player don't like the mpeg4 preformance...I saw nothing positve...Look like it was more of a pain in the butt to encode to this format........That's all I know.........There are many flavors of mpeg-4 out there.....Same with h.264.....

One thing I can say for Apple...they comform to the standards when dealing with codecs.......Microsoft and other compaies don't.......
